Concession

Prospection and research rights were granted by means of contract No. 368/2008, established with the Energy and Geology General Board, DGEG, in February 2008.

On January 5th of 2011, the exploration concession for the same area was published, ensuring to MTI the rights to explore the Moncorvo Iron Mines until 2070.

Exploration Plan – 1st Phase, Mua Mine

Beginning of the mining exploration will be done through open pit mining and concrete coating by flotation for production of pellet feed from the ore of the Mua field, with reserves measured and indicated at 120 Mtonnes.

MTI intends to install a development and innovation department in Moncorvo, with the purpose of optimizing production, deepening knowledge about the iron ore fields of Moncorvo and keep using the most advanced technologies available in the international industry in this project.

Annual Pellet Feed Production

  • 2nd year of exploration, 1 Mtonnes of pellet feed per year.
  • 4th year of exploration, 4 Mtonnes of pellet feed per year.
  • 6th year of exploration, over 16 Mtonnes/year of pellet feed per year.

Logistics

  • Belt conveyor from the mine to the beneficiation unit;
  • Water supply through pumping from the river 1 km away. Tailings dam less than 1 km away from the beneficiation unit;
  • Transportation of the pellet feed through a belt conveyor to the railroad cargo quay of Pocinho, 16 km away from the Mine;
  • New river cargo quay with capacity to receive 2.500 tonnes vessels to be built in Pocinho;
  • Transportation of the pellet feed through rail or river/sea vessels to the ports of Aveiro and Leixões;
  • MTI intends to build an ore pipeline for this route, which will allow unlimited outflow capacity and the reduction of transportation costs at a rate of 8/1.
